Softball Stumbles in Doubleheader with Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, CT- The Merrimack softball team lost both games to the Fairfield University Stags in a road doubleheader on Tuesday, April 1st.

Game 1 Score: Fairfield 3, Merrimack 0

Game 2 Score: Fairfield 2, Merrimack 1

Game 1 Recap

The Warriors had some competitive at bats in the first few innings. Anna Gedacht, the pitcher, kept the Stags at bay in her hometown. Gabby Kaduson would lace a double to right center field to get some magic going for the blue and gold in the 4th inning. Anna Gedacht got right back in the circle and had a very efficient bottom half of the frame. Abby Choquette extended her hitting streak by hitting a double to right field to start the top of the 5th. The Warriors would then have another efficient outing from Anna Gedacht, putting up a 1-2-3 inning. Thiana Brito got up in the top of the 6th and sliced a single up the middle to add to the Warrior's offensive. Although the Warriors had a great effort and added some hits late, the Stags tacked on some runs in the later innings and took game 1 by a score of 3-0.

Game 2 Recap

It was a busy top of the 1st for the Warrior's offense. Ellen Hubbard started things off with a single to left field. Thiana Brito followed suit and had a single of her own. Then, Gabby Kaduson moved over Thiana Brito on a fielder's choice. Emma Prahin was pitching in the circle this game. She got three outs in four at bats in the top of the 1st inning. The Novi, Michigan native would have the same kind of outing for the next five innings, as she kept the Stags hitters at bay. Madeline Arvai started off the top of the 4th with a solo home run to center field to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead. Emma Prahin also contributed offensively with an infield single. Eva Issitt got up in the top of the 5th and hit a single to left field to start the inning. She would inspire the offense that followed, as Ellen Hubbard got a hit and the duo of Thiana Brito and Gabby Kaduson walked. Although the Warriors took encouraging strides and fought until the very end, Fairfield came alive in the last inning and walked it off to win game 2 by a score of 2-1.
