Field Hockey Topped by Michigan State

Burlington, Vt. — The Merrimack College field hockey team fell to Michigan State on Saturday afternoon at Moulton Winder Field, 7–1. The Spartans built an early lead and carried the momentum throughout, while the Warriors broke through late in the match.

How It Happened
Michigan State opened the scoring less than a minute into the match and added two more goals in the first quarter to jump ahead 3–0. The Spartans struck twice more in the second to make it 5–0 at halftime.
After a quieter third quarter that saw MSU extend its advantage to 6–0, Merrimack found its moment in the final frame. Freshman Delaney Weiler scored in the 58th minute to put the Warriors on the board, her first of the season. Michigan State answered with a late goal to secure the 7–1 final.
