Worcester, MA — The Merrimack Men's Hockey team scored five times to make it five straight wins as they knocked off the College of the Holy Cross Crusaders by a score of 5-2 on Saturday night in Worcester.
Caelan Fitzpatrick would open the scoring just after a powerplay had expired for his third goal of the season. The Crusaders tied the score two minutes later, but Merrimack took command from there as Seamus Powell's long toss found its way in, and shortly after Nathan King picked the bend in the post to make the score 3-1 after one period.
This was the fourth time this season that Merrimack has scored three or more goals in a period.
In the second period, Justin Gill scored his seventh goal of the season, coming on the powerplay to take a 4-1 lead for the Warriors. Holy Cross would score their second of the game to keep it close (4-2) in the late stages of the period.
In the third, Warriors captain Mark Hillier put the game on ice with a breakaway goal early in the frame and Merrimack closed out the contest from there with a 5-2 victory.
Max Lundgren earned his tenth win of the season with 31 saves in the victory.
The Warriors return home for the first time in the new year as they host the UMass Minutemen on January 16th at 7:00 PM.
