Anderson’s Golden Goal Leads Women's Hockey Over #5 UConn

NORTH ANDOVER, MA— The Merrimack women's hockey team tied the score in the final five minutes and Avery Anderson got the overtime goal to pull off the 2-1 win over the #5 ranked UConn Huskies on Friday afternoon at Lawler Arena.

It was the second top-10 victory of the season for Merrimack, who also defeated No. 7 Clarkson earlier this season.

After getting 25 saves in the first two periods from Adreanna Doucette, Lauren Lyons would enter the game for the third period and overtime, making 11 saves of her own.

With the net solidified, Merrimack would tie the game entering the final five minutes as Emma Pfeffer scored in her fourth consecutive game after Kerttu Lehmus got the puck to the net initially. Stina Sanberg also picked up an assist on the Pfeffer goal.

In the overtime period, Avery Anderson would get the puck in her own zone and skate from end to end before putting the shot in far side to get the victory.
