Melaschenko's Career-High Points, Roman's Career-High Rebounds Lead Women's Basketball Over Saint Peter's

JERSEY CITY, NJ – Senior Lydia Melaschenko scored a career-high 28 points, making a career-high 8 3-pointers and Madison Roman junior Madison Roman had her eighth-straight double-double as the Merrimack women's basketball team defeated Saint Peter's 66-59 on Thursday.

Melaschenko, who had made seven 3-pointers earlier this season at High Point, made 4 trifectas in the first quarter alone and finished the game just one shy of the Merrimack school record of 9.

"Lydia Melaschenko is just like magic in a bottle sometimes and she just came up really big plays right at the right time," Merrimack head coach Kelly Morrone said. "Obviously Maddie Roman's attention on the rebounds was huge."

Roman grabbed a career-high 22 rebounds and scored 12 points for her eighth-straight double-double of the season, as the Warriors improved to 6-3 in MAAC play.

Grad student Oralye Kiefer scored 10 points and had 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. Kiefer also blocked a career-high five shots as the Warriors completed a regular-season sweep of the Peacocks.

Paloma Garcia filled the stat sheet with five points, seven assists, nine rebounds and two steals. Her nine rebounds tied a career high. Freshman Joi Williams had five points, two assists and a steal.

The game was back-and-forth until Merrimack went on a 15-6 run over the final five minutes. The Warriors remain on the road to face Mount St. Mary's on Saturday at 1 p.m.
