Men’s Hockey Ties New Hampshire, Drops Shootout

Durham, NH — The Merrimack Men's Hockey team banked a point with a 3-3 tie but fell in the shootout in the second game of their weekend set with New Hampshire on Saturday night at the Whittemore Center.

New Hampshire struck quick with two goals in the opening five minutes but the Warriors bounced back as Filip Nordberg picked up the puck in the neutral zone and found Justin Gill who sped in and finished for the goal, his tenth of the season.

After a scoreless second period, the Warriors leveled the score 2-2 as Daniel Astapovich forced a save from in tight and Ryan O'Connell would score on the rebound. Merrimack took the 3-2 lead two minutes later as Parker Lalonde picked up the puck and lasered it top shelf for his ninth of the season. New Hampshire however would tie the score 3-3  moments later to send the game into overtime.

In the overtime period, Trevor Hoskin nearly won the game in the final second, but the shot would not be counted after review.

New Hampshire won the shootout 2-1 to take the extra point.

The Warriors have a quick turnaround as they will face the Stonehill Skyhawks on Tuesday, at the Warrior Ice Arena. Puck Drop is at 7 PM.
