First-Place Men’s Basketball Downs Sacred Heart In 17-point Victory

NORTH ANDOVER, MA - The Merrimack College men's basketball team downed Sacred Heart this afternoon 75-58 earning their 10th conference victory. Kevair Kennedy scored 21 and Tye Dorset had 16 in the victory.

With the series sweeping win, the first-place Warriors improve to 10-2 in the conference and 8-0 at home.

The Warriors snapped Sacred Heart's five game winning streak. During that streak the Pioneers averaged 82.5 ppg. The Warriors held them to 59 today. 

"Awesome environment" said coach Joe Gallo. "A big league win against a team that had won five in a row."

Kennedy hit six shots and came down with seven rebounds. The freshman made 9-of-10 free throws and added on five assists coming close to a triple double. He tied his season in steals with five for the second straight game. 

Dorset's 16 points came on six made shots from the field. The sophomore added on three assists and two steals. He played the full 40 minutes in the victory. 

"I thought it was a good win for us," said Dorset. "We're just guys that get along and love to make plays."

Ernest Shelton hit three 3-pointers in the win, scoring 13. Shelton had four rebounds in the full 40 minute appearance.Andres Marrero hit three triples in the first four minutes of the second half. His 11 points came with six rebounds and two blocks. 

"We knew we had to come in focused and locked in," said Marrero. "I have 13 other guys telling me to shoot the ball everyday so that helps a lot with my confidence."

Todd Brogna led the team in rebounds with eight and KC Ugwuakazi followed that up with six. Both Brogna and Ugwuakazi scored six points. 

The Warriors head down to Emmitsburg on Thursday to take on Mount St. Mary's. Tip off against the Mountaineers is set for 7 p.m.
