Women's Tennis Stopped In Spring Opener

NORTH ANDOVER, MA – Seniors Kiana Thompson and Jordan Phillips won their singles matches, but the Merrimack women's tennis team lost its spring season opener 5-2 to New Haven on Saturday.

Thompson won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 singles and Phillips won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.

Phillips and Pia Vargas-Lopez were edged 7-6 (11-9) in a tiebreaker at No. 1 doubles.

"The team competed hard with a lot of energy in our first match of the year," Merrimack head coach Adam Courtemanche said. "The doubles teams look like they have a lot of chemistry. In singles Kiana and Jordan played very strong, coming out on top in both of their matches. We're looking forward to playing St. Michael's next Saturday."

The Warriors return to action on Saturday against Saint Michael's College at 1:30 p.m.
