Men's Hockey Upsets No. 14 Boston College In Thriller At Lawler

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack men's hockey team scored a pair of third-period goals en route to a 4-2 victory against No. 14 Boston College at a sold-out Lawler Arena on Friday night.

With the win, the Warriors (15-12-1, 8-9-1 in Hockey East) picked up a pivotal two points with six games remaining in the regular season.

Merrimack scored four unanswered goals, including the game-winning and lead-extending goals in a matter of 41 seconds. The visiting Eagles (16-10-1, 10-7-0) scored both their goals in the opening 15 minutes of the game.

"When you're down 2-0 to Boston College in the first period, it could be a long night," Merrimack head coach Scott Borek said after the win. "I loved our fight. I loved the way we came back and played. I loved our third period. That 5-on-3 could have been dangerous, killing that off was a huge part of our win."

Merrimack freshman forward Nolan Flamand scored the game-winning goal 10 minutes into the third period. Flamand's fifth goal of the season came on a second-effort rebound with captain Caelan Fitzpatrick (goal, two assists) credited with the helper.

Following a Boston College turnover just 41 seconds later, Jack Richard sauced a pass through the neutral zone to Justin Gill. Gill finished the breakaway bid to give the Warriors a two-goal lead.

Caelan Fitzpatrick cut Merrimack's deficit to 2-1 with a power-play goal at 18:21 of the first period. Parker Lalonde tied the game 2-2 with a power-play goal at 4:55 of the second period, assisted by Fitzpatrick.

"They kept going in with confidence," Borek said of the power play. "It was a big goal they got for us. It was a huge performance by both special teams."

Merrimack finished the game with a 30-24 edge in shots on goal.

The Warriors travel to Boston College for a home-and-home Saturday night at 7 p.m.
