NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. -- The Merrimack women's hockey team claimed an impressive two points after edging No. 14 Holy Cross in a shootout at Lawler Arena on Friday afternoon.
The Warriors scored both goals in the shootout after concluding regulation and overtime in a 1-1 tie. It resulted in Merrimack earning an extra point in the conference tilt.
Maria Lindberg and McKenzie Cerrato scored in the shootout while Merrimack goaltender Adreanna Doucette stoned both Holy Cross shooters.
Merrimack took a 1-0 lead late in the first period when Avery Anderson scored her sixth goal of the season. Anderson tipped in the slap pass from Maddie Crowley-Cahill while Solevig Gisler had the secondary assist. Holy Cross tied the game midway through the second.
Both team's traded chances in overtime, but neither could break through.
The Warriors travel to Vermont on Sunday with puck drop slated for 2 p.m. ET.
