CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- The Merrimack men's hockey team hung with No. 14 Boston College throughout, but ultimately suffered a 4-2 loss at Conte Forum on Saturday night.
With the result, the Warriors (15-13-1, 8-10-1 in Hockey East) split the two-game weekend series against the Eagles.
Merrimack and Boston College were tied 2-2 with less than one minute left in the third period before the hosts tallied two goals in the final 37 seconds. The Eagles scored the game-winning goal at 19:23 of the third period before an empty-netter with less than four seconds left in regulation.
The Warriors twice held a one-goal lead in the contest.
Merrimack got off to a perfect start as Justin Gill found the back of the net 7:02 into the first period. Gill's goal, which extended his point streak to 11 games, came on a slick feed from Mark Hillier. And in the second period, the Warriors scored a power-play goal at 9:56. Nick Pierre finished it off, marking his 11th goal of the season.
Boston College answered both times, tying the game with four seconds left in the first period and with 1:32 remaining in the second period.
The Warriors, who have five games remaining in the regular season, return home having pushed one of the best teams in the country on back-to-back nights. Merrimack claimed an upset win over Boston College on Friday.
