EMMITSBURG, MD. -- The Merrimack Men's Basketball team held Mount St. Mary's without a field goal for the opening eight minutes of the second half and pulled away with a 87-70 victory at Knott Arena on Thursday night.
With the win, the Warriors (14-9 overall, 11-2 in the MAAC) maintained their spot atop the conference standings.
"I thought the second half we really kind of settled down on both ends," Merrimack head coach
Joe Gallo said while referencing the team's 23-0 second-half run.
Ernest Shelton led the way with 27 points (5-for-10 from three-point range) as the Warriors overcome a 40-39 halftime deficit.
Kevair Kennedy finished with 25 points (8-for-13 from the field) while Andres Marrero chipped in 10 of his own as Merrimack had three players score double figures.
The Warriors shot 61% from the field in the second half and 50% from long range (5-for-10) while holding the Mountaineers to 35% from the floor after the intermission. Merrimack led by as many as 27 points with eight minutes left.
Merrimack's scoring output marked the most points scored against a MAAC opponent this season.
