Women’s Hockey Celebrates Senior Day With Thrilling Win Over Providence

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. — The Merrimack women's hockey team celebrated its senior day in style as the Warriors defeated Providence College, 3-2, at Lawler Arena on a snowy Saturday night.

The Warriors scored a pair of third-period goals after they entered the final frame tied with the Friars.

Merrimack goaltender Adreanna Doucette, who made 22 saves of her 39 saves during the third period, was pivotal between the pipes for the Warriors.

Stina Sandberg ended up scoring the game-winning goal at 18:29 of the third period after Providence pulled its goaltender. The play unfolded when Neely Hawn knocked a puck loose and Emma Pfeffer won a race before she slid it to Sandberg.

A mere nine seconds into the third period, Madison Vittands took advantage of a Providence turnover and finished on the other end to score her first collegiate goal and give the Warriors a 2-1 advantage.

Merrimack got the scoring started when it gained a 5-on 3-opportunity late in the first period. Olivia Grabianowski (goal, assist) finished off a rebound to give Merrimack a 1-0 lead at the first intermission.

After the game, the Warriors honored their five seniors and grads including Kathryn Karo, Olivia Grabianowski, Madison Michals, Avery Anderson and Maddie Crowley-Cahill, who played in her 150th career game Saturday.
