NORTH ANDOVER, MASS.— Mirko Nufi has been promoted to Merrimack men's soccer associate head coach as announced by team head coach Tony Martone on Monday morning.
"Today, I am happy to announce that we have promoted Mirko Nufi from Men's Soccer Assistant Coach to Associate Head Coach this season. He has since been instrumental in helping the program be highly competitive at the D1 level. He has and continues to demonstrate passion, knowledge and maturity and in his new role, he will continue to make substantial contributions to the success of our program."
Nufi, who begins his fifth year as a member of the staff this season, spent four seasons as a member of the Merrimack men's soccer team from 2018-21, receiving several accolades including being named Northeast Conference (NEC) Defensive Player of the Year in 2019 as he helped the Warriors to a 11-3-2 record and a perfect 9-0-0 mark in the Northeast Conference, he also scored the game winning penalty kick against FDU to win the NEC Regular Season Championship. That same year, he earned United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-American honors, was selected to the Scholar All-Region First Team, and the All-Northeast Region First Team. In 2021 Nufi was named as an All-American Strength and Conditioning Athlete of the Year. He was also named a team captain in his time as a player.
"I'm incredibly honored to be named Associate Head Coach at Merrimack College, a place that has meant so much to me as both a student-athlete and now a coach", said Nufi.
"I want to thank Coach Tony Martone for his trust, mentorship, and belief in me, as well as the entire Merrimack community for its continued support. I'm excited for the journey ahead and look forward to helping our program continue to grow. Go Warriors!"
As a member of the Merrimack coaching staff, Nufi has helped the Warriors to two playoff appearances, as well as the transition from the NEC to the METRO Conference.
