WORCESTER, Mass. -- The Merrimack men's tennis team picked up its first win of the season when the Warriors defeated Assumption University, 4-3, on Wednesday afternoon.
Bjorn Hedegaard-Friis won his singles match (6-0, 6-2), picking up where he left off after the Merrimack sophomore earned a pair over wins over the weekend. Tarik Zubovic (6-3, 6-4), Arjun Bhatia (6-3, 6-0) and Mats Hannastead (6-1, 6-1) all won their singles matches, which marked the first win of their respective careers.
Bhatia and Hedegaard-Friis then teamed up and won their doubles match in straight sets (7-6, 7-5).
"The team had a productive week of practice where we worked on volley execution and establishing depth with our rally ball," men's tennis coach Cory Erikson said. "We are battling some injuries, but the kids have been up for the challenge."
The Warriors travel to the Holy Cross Invitational on Saturday at 9 a.m.
