NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Merrimack senior running back Matthias Latham surpassed 200 yards of total offense and led the Warriors to a 17-10 victory over the New Haven Chargers at Duane Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

With New Haven charging down the field and facing second-and-goal at the Merrimack 10-yard line, Warrior edge rusher Trent Taylor jumped on a game-sealing fumble with 1:12 remaining. It granted the Warriors (2-3) a thrilling victory on Homecoming, Reunion & Alumni Weekend.

"We made enough plays, and the defense hung in there at the end," Merrimack head football coach Mike Gennetti said. "Offensively, we controlled the clock, and we were able to run the ball well.

"Matthias Latham was able to have another great game for us, which was great to see. And to close the game out as we did, I am just really proud of the group."

The Warriors totaled 403 yards of offense on a notable 318 rushing yards. Latham finished with 176 rushing yards and a team-high 40 yards receiving for 216 yards of total offense. On the defensive side, Merrimack limited New Haven to 170 yards of offense, including a mere 42 yards rushing. The Warriors held a 15-minute edge in time of possession.

Merrimack took a 17-7 lead with eight minutes left. Latham set up the scoring drive when he hauled in a pass from quarterback AJ Hairston Jr. and turned it into a 40-yard catch-and-run. Guytano Batolomeo kicked a 26-yard field goal seven plays later.

The Warriors held a 14-0 lead at the half. Merrimack's only pass attempt of the first half was a two-yard touchdown from Hairston to Andrew Korkosz, which came on a goal-line pop pass with 10:49 left in the first half.

Latham got the Warriors on the board in the first quarter with a 64-yard touchdown run. The dual-threat ball carrier bounced it outside and ran the final 50 yards down the sideline virtually untouched.

Logan Graham and Brian Guerrero each recorded a sack while Bryce Warrick and Micah Green recorded a quarterback hit.

The Warriors travel to Yale next Saturday.
