Secondary Insurance Information

Merrimack College Sports Medicine aims to provide the best quality healthcare including prevention of athletic injuries, however despite our best preventative efforts athletic injuries will occur. Many of these injuries may require specialty services outside the care of Merrimack College Sports Medicine department including but not limited to imaging, surgery and specialty doctor care. Therefore it is important that you fully understand the policies regarding medical insurance coverage for athletic injuries.

Per Massachusetts State Law, all students enrolled in an institution of higher education must be covered under a qualifying student health insurance program or be covered under comparable private health insurance plan. Therefore, in order to participate in varsity athletics, all student-athletes must provide proof of current insurance coverage. Proof can only be provided via an approval through the online Merrimack College Health Insurance Requirement at http://www.gallagherstudent.com/merrimack.

Merrimack College provides an Excess Sports Accident Insurance Policy through Bob McCloskey Insurance (BMI Benefits). This policy is offered on an "excess" basis to the student-athlete's primary health insurance policy.

  1. The completed accident claim form (submitted by athletic training)
