Women’s Tennis Dispatches Franklin Pierce, 8-1




NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Supported by a 6-0 sweep of singles play, the Merrimack College women's tennis program recorded its second win in as many games with an 8-1 victory over visiting Franklin Pierce University on Tuesday afternoon from North Andover High School.

  • With Franklin Pierce only traveling with five student-athletes – ensuring the Warriors one point in the doubles realm – the duo of sophomore Mia Briggs (York, Maine) and freshman Cassie Restrepo (Miami, Fla.) shutout their opposition at second doubles to give Merrimack a 2-0 lead
  • Junior Mana Seifaei (North York, Ontario) and junior Lauren Persson (Barnstable, Mass.) battled through a 14-game match at No. 1, but suffered an 8-6 loss
Rapid Recap (Singles)
  • All five of Merrimack's singles win came via sweeps. Seifeai bounced back at first singles, winning in straight sets (6-2, 6-2)
  • Persson recorded her second win at No. 2 of the season with a 6-1 opening-set victory followed by a 5-0 blanking to complete the sweep. Sophomore Roberta Marcos (Monterrey, Mexico) slotted in at the sixth flight, earning credit for the victory
  • Restrepo impressively won at fourth singles without losing a game, while senior captains Danielle Dunn (Middleton, Mass.) and Mackenzie Blair (Thomaston, Conn.) picked up two-set wins at third and fifth singles, respectively
