Women’s Tennis Falls in Closely Contested Match at SNHU




MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Merrimack College women's tennis program faced a 2-1 deficit entering singles play, and brought four of six matches to a decisive third set, but the host Southern New Hampshire Penmen proved resilient in an 8-1 final from the SNHU Tennis Courts Saturday.

Rapid Recap (Doubles)
  • Merrimack's third doubles pairing of sophomore Mia Briggs (York, Maine) and freshman Cassie Restrepo (Miami, Fla.) salvaged a point in the doubles ladder with an 8-6 triumph. It marked the duos second win in as many matches together
  • The Warriors suffered a pair of defeats at the first and second rungs, leading to SNHU's one-point advantage entering singles
Rapid Recap (Singles)
  • The top-three singles matches as well as No. 5 went the distance as Merrimack attempted to rally and win the match at singles. Junior Mana Seifaei (North York, Ontario) won her opening set, 6-4, only to see the Penmen's Sofia Morais rally in the final two frames. Junior Lauren Persson (Barnstable, Mass.) suffered a loss despite rallying to force a third set after winning the middle frame, 6-2
  • Senior captain Danielle Dunn (Middleton, Mass.) jumped out to a 1-0 lead at the third flight (6-3), but could not prevail in the final two sets
  • Freshman Abbie Sartori (Amesbury, Mass.) made her Merrimack debut Saturday, playing at sixth singles
