NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Coming off a come-from-behind victory against Southern New Hampshire, the fourth-ranked Merrimack College field hockey team will look to continue their impressive 2018 campaign as they take on #10 LIU Post in a matchup featuring two of the top teams nationwide.
Last Time Out:
- SNHU came out hot, scoring two unanswered goals in the first half to go into the break up, 2-0.
- The second half was a different story for the Warriors, as they came out much more aggressively on the offensive end. Senior Mary McNeil was able to cut the deficit in half after scoring a goal off a quick restart, catching the Penmen by surprise.
- Junior Miranda Judd was then able to tie the game with a goal off of a far shot with 15 minutes remaining in the game. This gave the junior her fifth goal of the year.
- McNeil was able to find the net again later in the game, when she scored on a shot that went through the legs of the SNHU goalkeeper with eight minutes remaining.
'Mack Facts:
- The Warriors are undefeated since September eighth, and have tallied an impressive seven wins since then.
- With a record of 4-0 against NE10 opponents, Merrimack is one of two teams in the conference that is undefeated in NE10 play. They currently sit in second place, trailing only ninth-ranked Pace on the conference leaderboard.
- McNeil leads the NE10 in assists (7) and is second in the conference in goals (12). McNeil leads the nation in assists per game (0.78) and is fourth in the country in goals per game (1.33).
- Junior Katharina Ohmen has helped the Warriors tremendously from the goalkeeper position. She is third in the NE10 and ninth in the country with a save percentage of .796.
- Merrimack has been dominant offensively this season leading the nation in scoring average (4.44) penalty corners per game (16) and points per game (11.44).
Inside the Series:
- LIU Post has held the advantage in the matchup in recent years, having won all of their last five games against Merrimack.
- The two sides last squared off in the postseason last year where LIU Post knocked the Warriors out of the the NE10 bracket.
- Merrimack is still searching for their first win against a ranked opponent this year. They are currently 0-1 against ranked opponents after losing to East Stroudsburg earlier this year.
