Five Things To Know
- Sophomore Chase Gresock continued with his prolific goal scoring earlier this week against Minnesota Duluth. He notched his seventh goal on the year in just his 13th game of the season. The sensational backhanded tally Monday afternoon put him in a tie with Tyler Irvine for the team lead in the category.
- The red hot Merrimack power play converted again against Minnesota Duluth. Sami Tavernier notched his second power play goal of the season Sunday against the Bulldogs when Zach Uens' shot tipped off Regan Kimens, then Tavernier before it found the back of the net. The Warriors have now tallied a goal with the extra man in three of their last five games and have tallied five goals in that span.
- Merrimack's battle for the starting goalie slot has heated up over the past month. Jere Huhtamaa and Troy Kobryn have been splitting time in the cage with Huhtamaa getting the starting nod in five of the last six games. Kobryn has appeared in 10 of the team's 19 games and has made seven starts on the year, while Huhtamaa has been tabbed the starter 12 times on the year and has appeared in all but six of the team's games.
- Merrimack's monstrous freshmen class has been thriving in its first year of college hockey. The class of 16 has combined for 52 points up to this point in the season, which accounts for 45% of the team's overall scoring.
- The River Hawks visit North Andover for the first time this season with just one regular season game played in nearly a month. Lowell comes to Lawler after a 3-1 win over the CCHL All-Stars Sunday and are winners of three of its last four games. The freshmen tandem of Matt Brown (17 points) and Carl Berglund (15 points) lead the River Hawks in scoring. Senior Tyler Wall has been exceptional between the pipes with a save percentage of .945, which is tops in Hockey East and second in the NCAA.
