Men's Tennis Captures Fourth Straight Victory Against UConn

MANCHESTER, Ct. - The Merrimack College men's tennis team earned its fourth straight victory Saturday night, where the Warriors beat UConn for the first time in program history. The Warriors competed in their closest match of the young season, earning victories at three out of six flights at singles to secure the victory.

  • Merrimack earned a crucial doubles point after taking the first two flights on Saturday. Senior Denis Davydov and classmate Alex Fedorov dominated the top flight, earning a 6-1 victory. Sophomores Jonathan Garcia and Alec Mackay Rodriguez won at No. 2 doubles in a much closer battle, bringing home a 6-4 victory.
  • The Warriors took three out of six potential flights in singles, giving them just enough to earn their first ever win against UConn.
  • Davydov fell for the first time this spring season in three sets at No. 1 singles (6-2, 4-6, 1-6). Garcia and sophomore Conrad Koch gave the Warriors wins at the next two flights at No.2 and No. 3 singles. Garcia won in a close one after dropping the first set (4-6, 6-1, 6-3). Koch was also able to pull out a close win at No. 3 singles (6-2, 2-6, 6-3), giving the Warriors two out of the first three flights.
  • Freshman Pedro de Godoy Mancini continued to shine, earning a victory at No. 5 singles (6-1, 6-3) giving Merrimack its deciding fourth point of the match.
