Men’s Hockey Alum Irvine ‘20 Inks Pro Deal with Devils

DEVILS RELEASE

NEWARK, N.J. – Merrimack College men's hockey alum Tyler Irvine '20 signed a professional contract with the Binghamton Devils, AHL affiliate of the New Jersey Devils, Wednesday.

A captain on the 2019-20 Warriors, Irvine enjoyed a career year in his final campaign in North Andover. He set career highs in goals (13), assists (14), points (27) and power play goals (7) and was the runaway scoring leader to finish the season. His career numbers include 139 games played (tied for 20th in program history), 30 goals and 33 assists for 63 points.

The contract is a professional tryout (PTO) and he joins the same organization as Brett Seney '18, who played two seasons with Irvine at Merrimack and led the Devils in scoring last season with 44 points in 61 games before COVID ended the AHL campaign early.

Irvine's signing now means that all four departed seniors from the 2019-20 season (Irvine, Griff Jeszka, Sami Tavernier and Tyler Drevitch) have either signed or played in professional games since they left the Warriors.

The Binghamton Devils plan to play all their home games in the 2020-21 season in Newark at the RWJBarnabas Health Hockey House, which is attached to the New Jersey Devils' Prudential Center. The AHL's season is set to start Feb. 5.
