Bhatia and Singer Shine at the First Ever Warrior Challenge

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – In a back-and-forth affair the entire weekend, the Merrimack College men's tennis team battled their way to an overall 11-9 record in the inaugural, "Warrior Challenge".

Aryaan Bhatia and Andre Singer had fantastic weekend's setting the standard for the Warriors, going 1-0 as a doubles pairing and 4-0 combined in singles play.

The Warrior Challenge included two other collegiate programs in Babson College and Saint Michael's College.

Rapid Recap
  • Bhatia's weekend started with a doubles victory in convincing fashion alongside Singer. The pairing topped off Jackson Moser and Ethan Watts of St. Michael's by a final tally of 8-1. The sophomore then continued his success in solo fashion as he defeated Brady Anderson of Babson 6-1 and 6-0. He carried over his dominance to his second set against Jackson Moser of St. Michael's, where he had a bit more push back, but still did enough to come out with a victory by scores of 6-1 and 6-2.
  • After winning the doubles set alongside Bhatia, Singer took his talents to singles play and started it off against Babson's Jose Gonzalez. The Milford, Conn. native, fought tooth and nail to come away with this set, but in the end came out with the victory by tallies of 6-3 and 6-4. Things didn't get easier there though for Singer, as the senior faced quite the challenge in Josh Weiss from St. Michael's. In the first set grinded his way to a 6-4 win, but then Weiss stormed back with a 3-6 victory in the second. The upperclassmen used his experience in an absolute battle of a third set, while eventually coming out on top winning by a score of 10-7.
  • Coming fresh off of an NEC Player of the Month award, sophomore, Jan Semerak, lost his lone doubles contest alongside his partner, Bhatia. In a hard-fought set, they paring fell just short as Nicholas Garcia and Brady Anderson of Babson edged out the win 8-6. He charged right back in the singles flight though defeating Wesley Zhang of Babson 6-1 and 6-3.
  • After a tough start to the tournament in doubles play losing both sets, newcomer, Charles Robertson, battled back in singles play with a win over the Purple Knights' Stefan Barre 6-2 and 6-2.
