Women's Golf Gets High Finish Among Northeast Powers at Quinnipiac Classic

RESULTS
WALLINGFORD, Conn. – Thanks to a sensational top-five individual finish from Prakruthi Sastry, the Merrimack College women's golf team finished fourth overall at the Quinnipiac Classic, which wrapped up Tuesday.   

Sastry was one of just four players in the entire 63-player field to break 80 all three rounds, which included a +3 total of 75 in the second round Monday to mark the best 18 holes of her young collegiate career. Her top round included 11 pars and a pair of birdies to help pace her to a tied for fourth overall effort.  

Alexandra Tomasso rode a second round 76 to break into the top-20 in the individual leaderboard at tied for 17th overall for Merrimack's second-best total. She had four birdies on the tournament, including three in a row during the middle of her third round to help the Warriors to 26 birdies as a team, which topped the entire tournament field.

Merrimack jumped out to third place after a first round 312, then stayed steady the rest of the tournament to finish at +85 overall. The Warriors were just five shots behind NEC foe, Sacred Heart, for third.

How It Happened
  • It was a tight race for the third-best score for Merrimack, but Jacquelyn Stiles narrowly secured it over Yiting Pan. Stiles was in a tie for second overall after the first round when she shot a +1 73 that was highlighted by three birdies and she played her final 11 holes to one-under-par. She ended up alone in 25th overall.
  • Pan finished just one shot behind Stiles after she put together a final round of 79 Tuesday. She had back-to-back birdies on The Farms' 11th and 12th holes to build momentum on the back nine.
  • Jordan Laplume showed improvement as the tournament progressed. She had a nine-shot improvement during her second round and eventually ended up 56th overall.
