BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The Merrimack College men's tennis team had plenty of success at Binghamton University this past weekend when it opened its fall season at The Star Group Binghamton Invitational.
The Warriors competed against six teams: Army, Binghamton, Bucknell, Buffalo, Colgate and NJIT. Jan Semerak stole the show for Merrimack, as he went unbeaten in singles play to win his bracket.

- Semerak competed in dominant fashion throughout the weekend. The sophomore took on the seven highest seeded players in the field and prevailed to claim the title. He ended his performance with a straight sets win over Nick Mueller of Bucknell with a final tally of 6-4, 6-4.
- First years, Charles Robertson and Henrik Lindeman, opened their collegiate careers with plenty of success. Robertson went 2-1 in singles play and 2-2 in doubles play and capped his weekend with a straight sets win over Adi Ben Ari of Binghamton. Lindeman had a 2-1 mark in singles play with a marathon tiebreaker win over Benito Vlassis of Colgate by a 6-7 (5), 7-6 (6), 10-2 score. He also went 1-3 in doubles play.
- Senior, Jonathan Garcia went a perfect 3-0 in singles play to win the C flight. His dominant run finished Sunday when he cruised to a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Mike Thomas of Colgate.
- Semerak and classmate, Aryaan Bhatia, were co-champions of the A-flight doubles bracket after a 3-1 record. They played their way into the three-way tie after a 6-3 defeat of Army's Peter Hatton and Vishnu Bodavula Sunday.
- The Warriors finished the tournament with a 23-17 record overall. They went 7-9 on the opening day, then were red hot Saturday with a 9-3 mark before a 7-5 day Sunday to close the tournament.

Merrimack turns around next weekend for another tournament, this time at the Bryant Invite, hosted by its NEC rivals. The two-day competition is set to begin Sep. 25 and conclude that Sunday.
