North Andover, Mass. – The Merrimack College football team received a program-high 14 votes in the FCS Coaches Poll, which is good enough for best in the Northeast Conference (NEC) as announced on Monday afternoon.
The Warriors sit at 6-2 on the season, including four wins in the Northeast Conference. On Saturday the Warriors beat Sacred Heart University 31-25. It was the squads first win over the Pioneers since becoming a Division I institution.
Since jumping into the starting role, quarterback
Gavin McCusker has been a solid piece to the Warrior offense. The redshirt freshman has a 51% completion percentage to go along with 742 yards and five touchdowns. Running back
Victor Dawson has been a staple on the ground for Merrimack. The Akron native has run for 559 yards so far this season. Dawson has also found the endzone 10 times, which is good enough for seventh in the FCS. Captian
Rodney Samson has been a force on the defensive side of the ball over the first eight games of the season. Samson has 47 solo tackles, which is good enough for second best in the FCS.
Merrimack will head down to Easton on Saturday afternoon to square up with newly added NEC member Stonehill College. Kick off is set for 1 p.m. and can be seen on NEC Front Row.
