Men's Tennis Drops Heart Breaker to Quinnipiac

HAVERHILL, Mass. – The Merrimack College men's tennis team took on Quinnipiac University in their second game of the spring season. In a match that came down to the wire, the Warriors just didn't have enough in the tank as they fell 4-3.
 
The Warriors were led by freshman, Henrik Lindeman, who helped capture the lone doubles point as well as dominating his singles match winning the match in back-to-back sets.

  • This contest started with in the doubles bracket where the Bobcats and Warriors fought tooth and nail to capture the point. In doubles #1, sophomore. Jan Semerak and senior Alec Mackay Rodriguez, battled their scrapped their way through winning six games, but in the end the Bobcats won the match. In doubles #2, senior, Jonathan Garcia, and freshman, Keita Duclos, followed up their teammates in the first match by winning 6 games of their own. In similar fashion though, they couldn't capture the final game and the Bobcats took the second match as well as the doubles point to go up 1-0. In doubles #3 where Lindeman and classmate, Valentine Riveros, played a great match as they won 6 games to 3 to avoid a Warrior sweep in doubles.
  • In singles play, Semerak played in the first match for the Warriors as they looked to bounce back after the result in doubles. Unfortunately, though, Semerak dropped this one by scores of 3-6 and 2-6. In singles #3, senior, Andre Singer, started off in the first game by going back and forth with his opponent. The first set started out in the Bobcats favor as their player went up 3-0, but then Singer came storming back. He brought things all the way back to 6-6, before the Bobcats player took the set. Singer still had fight left in the tank though as he brought the next set 5-5 before falling 7-5. Riveros took the court next in singles #4 looking to capture the first singles point for Merrimack. Things didn't go accordingly to plan though as the Miami, F.L. native dropped the match by scores of 2-6 and 2-6. In singles #5, the Warriors captured their first point of the contest, as Mackay Rodriguez dominated. The Bogota, Columbia native only lost two games as he went on to win the match by scores of 6-2 and 6-0. In singles #6, it was Lindeman's turn to take action. The freshman dominated the first set by winning 6-1 and then also captured the second set 6-4 to get the contest to 3-3. It all came down to singles #2, as Garcia was in play for the Warriors. He got off to a convincing start winning the first set 6-1, but the Bobcats player came back in the second winning 7-5. The third and final set would determine this one between the Bobcats and Warriors. In the end though, Quinnipiac came out on top winning 4-3.

Merrimack will return to action on February, 19th when they take on the Brandeis University.
