Men's Hockey's Uens Signs NHL Contract with Florida Panthers

NORTH ANDOVER, MASS. – Merrimack College men's hockey junior defenseman Zach Uens has signed a two-year entry level contract with the NHL's Florida Panthers, as announced by the club.

Uens is set to begin his professional career with the team's American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate in Charlotte, N.C. The Belleville, Ontario native was a fourth round pick of the Panthers in the 2020 NHL Draft and completed a sensational three-year career with the Warriors this winter.

"We are proud of Zach. He has worked tirelessly for this opportunity," said Merrimack head coach Scott Borek. "To have players sign NHL contracts is a goal of the program and we could not be more excited for Zach and his family. He has been a huge part of Merrimack College and Merrimack hockey for the last three years and we very much appreciate his contribution to our program's growth."

In 2021-22, the defenseman netted a pair of goals and added 17 assists for 19 points in 34 appearances. He also had a +8 on-ice rating. Over the course of his collegiate career, Uens played in 82 games and had 44 points on the strength of seven goals and 37 assists.

The Charlotte Checkers open up a three-game series against the Providence Bruins, NHL affiliate of the Boston Bruins, Thursday evening at Bojangles Coliseum.
