Sastry Leads the Pack for Women's Golf at Kingsmill Intercollegiate

RESULTS

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Merrimack College women's golf team was led by a pair of sub-80 rounds from Prakruthi Sastry over the past two days, as the Kingsmill Intercollegiate closed Tuesday afternoon at the River Course at Kingsmill Resort.  

Sastry's play was good enough to tie for 27th among the 79-player field. She had an opening round 76 Monday morning with 10 pars and two birdies, then had an afternoon total of 83 to close out the long day. Nine pars and a pair of birdies highlighted her card in the closing round Tuesday for a 78 to notch the top score of the tournament for the Warriors.

Jacquelyn Stiles had an exceptionally consistent couple days for the team's second-best total. She had an opening round of 81 with 10 pars, then closed the day with an 83. She returned to the course Tuesday and rode a stretch of five pars in six holes on the back-9 to compile an 82 to end in a tie for 52nd overall.

How It Happened
  • Yiting Pan ended just one shot behind Stiles on the tournament, as the freshman had 13 pars in the opening round on the way to a 77. She wasn't able to match that effort in the final two rounds and ended in a tie for 56th overall.
  • Alexandra Tomasso battled back Monday afternoon and improved by a trio of shots from her opening round total to fire an 86. She carded a 90 in the final round to end in 73rd.  
  • Playing as an individual, Caitlin White put together a solid round of 82 Friday with 10 pars, then had a 95 Saturday for a combined 177 to tie for 63rd.
  • Jordan Laplume played her best golf of the tournament Tuesday, as the senior had a five-shot improvement from her second round when she ended with a 90. She ended in 76th overall individually.

Merrimack returns to action this weekend for the JEL Golf Women's Intercollegiate at Prospect Bay in Grasonville, Md. The practice round is Friday, followed by the first round Saturday at Prospect Bay Country Club.
