SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Merrimack College baseball team lost the rubber match of the weekend series with Bryant University on Saturday afternoon. The Warriors hit five home runs, including two from
Christian Gemelli. Merrimack also got dingers from
Alex Haba,
Jake Macchi and
Stephen Santarpia. The Warriors scored 13 runs, which is the most so far this season.

- The Bulldogs jumped out to an early three run lead in the bottom of the first. Merrimack starter Cedric Gillette then responded by getting Bryant to go down in order in the second. Santarpia opened up the scoring for the Warriors in the top of the third with the first home run of his Merrimack career. Haba then singled with one out to continue the run. Scott Elliott then tripled home Haba brining Merrimack within one. Michael Golankiewicz singled home Elliott to tie the game. The Bulldogs got one back to retake the lead by one. Gemelli homered in the fourth for the Warriors to tie the game once again. Bryant got three runs in the bottom of the fifth to go up by three.
- Macchi homered for Merrimack with one out in the top of the sixth to cut the advantage to two runs. The Bulldogs then added nine runs to jump out to a 11 run lead. Haba hit his second home run of the season to try and slice into the massive lead. He bomb got the deficit down to single digits. The Warriors got two more runs back in the top of the eighth after a two RBI single by Thomas Crowley found a hole. Bryant then rattled off nine runs again in the bottom half of the eighth to take a commanding lead. Gemelli hit his second home run of the game, this time it was a three-run shot, but that wasn't enough to get Merrimack the win.

- Haba's hit streak extends to 13 games, which is the highest on the team.
- Santarpia, Gemelli, and Macchi all had their first career home runs today in the loss.
