Bennett Adds Another NEC Rookie of the Week Honor

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. — Merrimack College men's basketball guard Javon Bennett was named the Northeast Conference (NEC) Rookie of the week for the fourth time this season, as announced Monday after he continued his excellent play in the Warriors 70-54 victory over Central Connecticut  on Thursday night and his play in the 80-59 win against against Long Island University on Saturday afternoon.

The Orlando, Fla native scored 14 points in the Merrimack win on Thursday. The point guard also had five assists, four rebounds to go along with five steals in the victory. In the win on Saturday afternoon Bennett had 6 points but had a game high in 12 assists. He also had four steals and four rebounds to help boost the Warriors to a victory.

Bennett currently ranks third on the team in scoring, averaging 8.8 points per game. The freshman ranks first in both the Northeast Conference and in the nation in steals per game with 2.9 per contest. Bennett has 89 total swipes so far on the season.

The Warriors get back to action on Wednesday night in the first round of the NEC tournament against LIU. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
