Copponi Selected by Edmonton in the 2023 NHL Draft

Nashville, Tenn—Merrimack Junior forward Matt Copponi was selected by the Edmonton Oilers as the 216th pick in the 2023 NHL draft held today in Nashville.
 
Copponi, who is a junior next season from Mansfield, Massachusetts had a breakout year for the Warriors this past season as he played in 37 games this season joint leading the team with 14 goals, to go along with 15 assists for 29 points as the Warriors reached the NCAA national championship tournament. He also recieved conference honors as he named the Hockey East All Tournament team for his performance, highlighted by his goal against UMass Lowell to send Merrimack to the tournament final. Copponi is returning for this upcoming season with the Warriors they look to build on last season's success.
 
"Proud of Matt, he has been underrated as a player for too many years, said head coach Scott Borek, it's a great pick by Edmonton and the best is yet to come for him."
 
With this selection, Copponi becomes the 27th player in Merrimack's history to be taken in the NHL draft.
