Men's Basketball Bested By Butler

Indianapolis, Ind. –  The Merrimack College men's basketball team lost to Butler University on Friday night 78-39.

Rapid Recap
  • Matt Becht got the scoring going with a three to put the Warriors ahead. The Bulldogs then went on a six-point run to go up four. Becht found the bottom of the net with his second three of the night to cut the lead down to one. Butler added a bucket to go back up three. Devon Savage hit a three to head into the first media timeout tied at nine. Out of the media, the Bulldogs added five straight points to go up two scores. David Murray and Armandas Plintauskas added four points for Merrimack to cut the lead down to one. Both teams battled back and forth. A three from Butler at the eight-minute mark, gave the Bulldogs a six-point lead. Murray converted on a layup to get it back down to four. Butler scored four straight points to take their biggest lead of the first half at eight. Sean Trumper drove the lane for two, making it a two-possession game. With three minutes to go on the first half, Merrimack was down 12. The Warriors ended the first half on a six-point run to head into halftime down by just six.  
  • The Bulldogs opened the second half on a 10-point run to go up by 16. Malik Edmead ended the run with a jumper. Butler then added 18 consecutive points to swell their lead to 32. This time Adam "Budd" Clark stopped the run with a drive to the hoop. Tye Dorset scored his first basket of the game at the four-minute mark to get the advantage back down to 30. Merrimack would lose the game by 39.  
     
Notes and Numbers
  • Clark finished the game with four assists and three rebounds.
  • Trumper led the team in rebounds with five in the loss.
  • Becht finished the game with a team-high two steals.   
Up Next
Merrimack heads back to New England to take on UMass Lowell on Monday. Game time is set for 6 p.m. in Lowell.
