Rapid Recap
Early on the theme was defense, and the same persisted throughout the game. In the first quarter the two teams stayed neck and neck with neither able to pull away. The quarter ended just how it started, tied up. After the 12-12 first ten minutes of play, Marist began to pull away ever so slightly but a run to end the half and a
Paloma Garcia half court buzzer beater tied it up once again, this time at 25 apiece.
The second half showed off more of the same defensive prowess that was seen in the first. That was until Merrimack went on a 12-4 run to close out the third and go up 43-34 on the Red Foxes. Going into the final quarter with a near double figure lead provided just enough cushion for the Warriors to halt any run from Marist. Their lead was extended to as large as 13 points in the frame. Even with a late push from the Red Foxes, Merrimack held strong and maintained their lead. The Warriors ultimately salted the game away in the final minutes thanks to some stellar foul shooting and defense to grab the win and earn a perfect 2-0 record on the week.
