Riverdale, N.Y.-- Merrimack Softball took the rubber match against Manhattan in an extra innings affair as the Warriors took a 4-2 win on Sunday afternoon.
Merrimack took the lead in the second inning, as they loaded up the bases and
Sydney Samuel would score after
Thiana Brito forced a walk. The Warriors would cling to that lead until they got a little more help in the sixth inning as
Sydney Samuel launched a solo shot over the center field fence to double the lead.
Looking to close the complete game, the Jaspers played small ball, scoring twice in the last of the seventh to force extra innings.
The Warriors would take the lead for good in the top of the ninth, after
Alex Miller and
Sam Russalesi would reach base with one out,
Eva Issitt would lay down a bunt and Miller would cross the plate to take the lead on a throwing error. Russalesi would score herself after a sacrifice fly and an RBI from
Ellen Hubbard. In the last half of the ninth,
Anna Gedacht would complete her eighth inning of work with a 1-2-3 inning to collect her and the Warriors second win of the weekend.
