How it Happened
  • The first game of the series was a pitching duel and defensive grinder throughout the first four innings. Besides a minor speed bump in the first inning, Flynn Howard was excellent for Merrimack through the first four. He gave up just one earned in that time. In the fifth the Stags struck for two runs to make it 3-0 and led to a Warrior pitching change. Colby Barker and Dawson Logie held a potent Fairfield lineup to just two runs over the next two and a third innings pitched. The Warriors trailed 5-0 at this point and still the bats we're held down. Fairfield went on to score four more runs while Merrimack added just one in the ninth off of a Logan Castellano single. The first game of the series went to the Stags, 9-1.
  • Game two saw the first two runs come across in innings two and three from the Stags. Merrimack's bats then awakened in the fourth as they scored six runs through the next three innings to take a lead. Homers from Cavan Brady and Hayden Bond helped to grab the advantage heading into the bottom of the sixth. It would be a forgettable half of the inning for the Warriors with Fairfield scoring 11 runs in the frame to go up 13-6. Merrimack got two runs back in their half of the seventh but it was not enough as the Stags took game two, 15-8.
  • Merrimack looked to avoid the sweep in game three and Cole Yennaco started on the mound for the Warriors. He pitched three innings giving up five earned while striking out four. Merrimack was not able to score until the seventh inning when they were down 6-0. Brooks Craigue knocked in an RBI followed up by a Cavan Brady double that scored two. After that, the Stags went on to score the final eight runs of the game to complete a sweep, winning the final game of the series.
