Durham, N.H. The Merrimack College Warriors women's soccer team scored two wondergoals and scored a penalty kick late but ultimately fell to the New Hampshire Wildcats by a score of 4-3 in Durham on Wednesday night.
Merrimack: 3, New Hampshire: 4
Merrimack (1-3-2), New Hampshire (1-2-2)
In the first half, Merrimack's biggest chance came late in the going as Lily Cook's long range punt glanced off the right post and the Wildcats would take advantage as they scored a few minutes later with a long range effort.
In the second half,
Kyra Whitman would take the ball off the deflected clear from a New Hampshire defender, Whitman would then shake that player and rifle her shot into the top left corner from around 30 yards away for a stunning equalizer. The Wildcats however would retake the lead shortly after as a knuckling shot found it's way across the goal line and they would add an insurance marker as they scored a rebound from in close.
Kylie Fuller would get the Warriors back to a one goal deficit, but the Wildcats scored just 30 seconds later to reestablish the two-goal lead. Merrimack would pick up a consolation as
Taylor Pedra would convert a penalty kick in the final minute of play but Merrimack was unable to force the draw on the evening.
Notes and Numbers:
- Krya Whitman and Kylie Fuller both scored their first as Warriors in the game.
- Taylor Pedra scored her first goal of the season as well.
