North Andover, MA — The Merrimack Men's Hockey team scored two goals in the first period and hung on from their as they nipped the New Hampshire Wildcats by a score of 2-1 at Lawler Arena.
Merrimack was able to get on the board first after being awarded a powerplay. After winning the draw, it was Justin Gill who ripped the shot home to go ahead in the contest with Trevor Hoskin and Caden Cranston picking up assists. Merrimack doubled their advantage late in the frame when Cranston scored off a takeaway unassisted for his fourth goal of the season and second point of the night.
After a scoreless second period, New Hampshire had a lifeline, as they scored with seven minutes to play but Max Lundgren would shut the door from there, making several more saves, 21 in total on the night and pick up his and his team's 13th win of the season as the final second ticked away.
The Warriors head to Durham looking for a sweep as they face New Hampshire at 7 PM on Saturday. The game can be seen on ESPN Plus and NESN.
