NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Worldwide Leader in Sports is coming to Merrimack College.
The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) on Wednesday announced the Merrimack men's basketball team will be featured on the nationally-televised ESPNU broadcast when the Warriors host Siena on Friday, Feb. 20, at 8 p.m. ET.
It represents the first ESPNU broadcast for the men's basketball team since it joined the MAAC ahead of the 2024-25 season.
"We are grateful to ESPN and the MAAC for selecting our men's basketball game to be broadcast on prime time television, and we look forward to showing off Merrimack College, our basketball program and our incredible fans to a national audience next Friday night," Merrimack athletic director
Joe Foley wrote in a statement.
The match up will feature two of the top three teams in the conference with the Warriors (16-9 overall, 12-2 in MAAC) currently sitting atop the standings. The Saints (17-8 overall, 10-4 MAAC) currently sit in third place, a mere one game back of second-place St. Peter's (14-8, 11-3).
Merrimack earned a 63-59 win at Siena on Jan. 4.
The game has been flexed to ESPNU as part of the MAAC Wildcard Game Package. The package provides both ESPN and the MAAC the flexibility to pick any game scheduled for a wildcard date and flex the broadcast to a national audience on ESPNU. It helps showcase the best MAAC Basketball matchups over the course of the season.
"Being picked to represent the MAAC in a nationally televised game is a reflection of the success and progress our program has made of the years," Merrimack head coach
Joe Gallo said. "It shines a spotlight on our players, our staff, and the support we receive from campus and our community, and it reinforces the standard we're continuing to build toward."
Before Merrimack hosts Siena, however, the Warriors will host Marist at Lawler Arena on Thursday (7 p.m. ET) and travel to Quinnipiac on Sunday (2 p.m. ET). The contest against Marist will feature student giveaways with the Air Elite Dunkers performing a halftime show. Siena will play Quinnipiac and Marist before traveling to Merrimack.
Earning the national broadcast serves as the latest recognition for head coach
Joe Gallo and the Warriors.
Merrimack freshman
Kevair Kennedy (17.3 points, 4.6 rebounds per game) has won the MAAC Rookie of the Week four times this season while junior
Ernest Shelton (16.2 points per game) also was tabbed the MAAC Player of the Week earlier this season.
