NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. -- The season isn't over for the Merrimack women's basketball team.
Kelly Morrone and the Warriors have been invited to the Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) as a recipient of an at-large bid. It marks the first time the women's basketball program has been invited to the Division I WNIT.
"It's just been such a good year," Morrone said. "So many firsts, so many postseason awards and to cap it off with this kind of exclamation point, to be able to host at home. It's a historic season with an excellent cast of players that we're going to get to see, at least for one more game."
The Warriors will host New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) at Lawler Arena on Thursday at 7 p.m.
Merrimack (19-12, 15-5 in MAAC) finished third in the MAAC during the regular season before reaching the semifinals of the conference tournament. The Warriors suffered a loss to Fairfield, a nationally-ranked program which went on to win the MAAC Tournament and thus earn a berth in the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Tournament.
