NORTH ANDOVER, MA. – Anna Gedacht spun a gem in a complete game effort as the Merrimack Softball team salvaged the final game of their series with Iona, capturing a 3-2 win on Sunday afternoon at Warrior Diamond.
After falling behind in the top of the first, Merrimack would take the lead in bottom half as
Caity Lemay ripped a two run double into left field, scoring
Sam Russalesi and
Alex Miller.
Iona would tie the score in the third, but like the first inning, they game wouldn't hold serve for long as
Melaney Velasco scored on a Gaels error to give Merrimack a 3-2 lead.
With the lead in hand,
Anna Gedacht would be the story, only allowing one hit in the final four innings, and when an error put the tying run on third with two out in the sixth, Gedacht would get the swinging strikeout to end the inning, before retiring the side in order in the seventh to win the game.
Up Next: The Warriors hit the road for their first of eight, beginning with a doubleheader in Fairfield against Sacred Heart on April 3 at 1 and 3 PM.
