Softball Sweeps Home Finale Against Niagara

NORTH ANDOVER, MA-- Merrimack Softball pulled off the doubleheader victory in their home finale, taking 9-6 and 1-0 wins on a sunny, cool day at Warrior Diamond on Tuesday afternoon.

In game one, Merrimack got out of the gates hot, with four runs in the first inning with Caity Lemay, Sam Ryan and Jamie Calkins all driving in runs, before Madeline Arvai launched a two run home run to left center in the fourth.

After Niagara tied the score in the sixth, Merrimack would retake the lead for good as Sam Ryan and Megan Miller worked bases loaded walks before Jamie Calkins would push another insurance run across on a sacrifice fly.

With the lead reestablished, Sam Ryan would pick up the win after two innings in relief, retiring all six batters faced.

In game two, Merrimack starter Brandi Neil was the main story, with a complete game shutout, striking out six.

With Neil dealing on the mound, the Warriors would push their lone run across the plate in the third inning on an Anna Mitrou single.

Merrimack will play the remainder of the season on the road, beginning with a three game series with Siena on Saturday and Sunday.
