Baseball Completes Sweep Vs. Quinnipiac In Final Regular-Season Series

ANDOVER, Mass. -- The Merrimack College baseball team completed a sweep against visiting Quinnipiac by winning both games of their double-header at Greater Lawrence Tech on Saturday.

The series sweep, which featured a 12-6 victory in the early afternoon and a 14-4 win in the evening, marked a fourth consecutive series win against an in-conference opponent. The Warriors, who qualified for the MAAC Baseball Championships on Friday, clinched the No. 4 seed with the result.

Merrimack scored 12 runs on 13 hits in the first game of the double-header before tallying 14 runs on 15 hits in the second game.

Greg Cristino (3-for-5, six RBI, two runs) was the headliner in the opening matchup with a pair of home runs. Cristino hit a solo shot in the fifth before breaking the game open with a three-run blast in the sixth.

Additionally in the first game, Jayden Hamilton (3-for-5, two RBI, two runs) and Garrett McGovern (3-for-5, three RBI, run) joined Cristino with multiple hits. McGovern hit a home run of his own to give the Warriors a 10-4 lead during a four-run sixth inning.

During the second game of the day, the Warriors hit three home runs and used a five-run fifth inning to take the lead for good. Merrimack added five runs in the bottom of the seventh, thus causing a mercy-rule verdict.

Christian Scanlon hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning while Jack DePalma blasted a three-run shot in the seventh.

The No. 4 Warriors face No. 5 Canisius in the opening round of the MAAC Baseball Championships on Wednesday.
