NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College men's basketball team faces Stonehill College on Wednesday in its first of two games this season against its divisional rivals. The Warriors and Skyhawks will tip-off at 7:30 p.m. from Merkert Gymnasium in Easton, Mass.
Five Things to Know:
- Merrimack enters Wednesday's contest after a strong performance in on their trip to Lakeland, Fla. On that weekend, they were bested by #12/11 Florida Southern, losing by a narrow margin of six points. The Warriors recovered on day two of the tournament, defeating Saint Leo by a score of 85-81. It marked the program's first games in the state of Florida since the 2003-04 season
- Junior Juvaris Hayes currently ranks third in the NE10 in scoring, averaging 21.1 points per game. Hayes has scored at least 20 points in five out of the first seven games for the Warriors this season. The point guard is also among the league leaders in rebounds (7.6), assists (6.0) and steals (3.3) per game
- In the victory against Saint Leo senior Ryan Boulter notched a season-high 25 points to lead the Warriors offensively. Boulter shot 6-11 from three-point range, sinking 54.5 percent of his treys
- Through their first seven games, Merrimack has proved to have one of the top defenses in the conference. The Warriors have allowed only 67.0 points per game, good for second in the NE10. Hayes has led the charge defensively, leading the conference in steals per game with 3.3.
- The Warriors' defense continues to be the program's calling card. Merrimack ranks among the top five in the conference in terms of points per game allowed, steals per game, and blocks per game
Series History:
- Merrimack and Stonehill both were deemed as top-four teams in the Northeast Division of the NE10 by the conference's preseason poll, the Warriors claiming second, and the Skyhawks claiming fourth.
- The Warriors came away with victories in both matchups against Stonehill last season, winning by scores of, 105-67 at home, and 85-74 in Easton.
- Merrimack is 4-2 in their last six matchups with Stonehill over the course of the last three seasons. The last time the Skyhawks beat the Warriors was in February of 2017.
