MIDDLETON, Mass. – The Merrimack College men's tennis program opened its spring season with a 6-3 victory over Saint Thomas Aquinas – the No. 6 regionally ranked program according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association – on Sunday evening from the Northeast Tennis Center. Seniors
Mikhail Belov and
Frank Vega as well as junior
Alex Fedorov each posted 2-0 records on the day.

Rapid Recap (Doubles)
- Merrimack started Sunday strong, sweeping the doubles portion of the tilt
- Sophomore mid-year transfer Denis Davydov joined Belov at the top flight, with the Russian duo combing for an 8-5 win over STAC's No. 1 combination
- After an all-league season as a pair last spring, Vega and Fedorov picked up right where they left off with an 8-3 victory at second doubles
- Junior Tyler Clontz returned to Merrimack's lineup after returning to campus this fall, and joined sophomore Paul Weidinger at No. 3, winning their match in the 16th game, 9-7, over the Spartans' No. 3 offering

- Belov returned to the top singles flight to start his senior campaign, rallying from a 1-0 deficit to stake Merrimack to a three-set win at No. 1, 2-6, 6-1 and 6-3.
- Vega recorded the Warriors' first singles win of the night at No. 3 (6-1, 6-2), while Fedorov followed suit at the fourth flight with a clean sweep, 7-5 and 6-2
- The other three singles matches went in favor of the Spartans. Davydov debuted in singles play at No. 2 while Clontz and Weidinger played and fifth and sixth singles, respectively
