ALL-AMERICAN! Braga Wraps Up Decathlon with an Eighth Place Finish at NCAA’s

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Merrimack College men's track & field graduate student John Braga entered the final two events of the 2018 Division II NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships decathlon sitting in 11th place. He saved the best for his final two events in the javelin throw and 1500m race to finish the decathlon in eighth place and earn All-American status.

Day Two Decathlon
  • Braga had his highest finish in the javelin event, coming in third place. He had a distance of 50.40m, scoring 595 points.
  • In the final event of the day, the 1500m race, Braga came in seventh event with a time of 4:38.11. He was less than three seconds behind the fifth place finisher, Kodiak Landis, from Central Washington University.
  • Braga opened up the second day with the 110m hurdles. He finished in 12th place with a time of 15.98 seconds. He was within three one hundredths of a second behind the 11th place finisher Spencer Jahr from Colorado Mesa.
  • He finished was 11th in the pole vault event. Braga reached a mark of 4.15m, scoring 659 points.
