NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Coming off a hard fought win against Stonehill earlier this week, the Merrimack College men's soccer program will look to earn a big road victory against No. 22 Le Moyne this Saturday, September 29.
Last Time Out:
- The first 12 minutes of the game proved to be the most important for the Warriors, as they were able to pepper three shots on the Skyhawks to start the game.
- Once the offense got in a rhythm, it wasn't long before the first goal was scored. Sophomore Filippo Begliardi Ghidini was fed a beautiful ball inside the six from freshman Francesco Dondini, and the one-time shot was good for a 1-0 Merrimack lead.
- From there, the Skyhawk defense solidified. Only three more shots from the Warriors were put on frame in the first half, and Skyhawk keeper Billy Troast was there to put a wall between the pipes.
- Stonehill's best offensive push came at the start of the second half, where senior Tyler Packett was forced to make a pair of saves to keep his team in the lead.
- Merrimack had chances in the 70th and 81st minute to add to their lead; a curling shot from freshman Tola Showunmi, and a rocket from Ghidini – both of which rung the post.
- Three cards were awarded as tension mounted in the final 15 minutes, but neither defense broke down, ending the game with a 1-0 Merrimack victory.
Mack Facts:
- Merrimack has outscored opponents 13-3 thus far this season and are averaging 1.86 goals per game.
- Senior Tyler Packett leads the Northeast 10 Conference in goals against average (.43) and goals against total (3). He also holds the conference's second highest save percentage (.870).
- Senior Lars Sund has recorded 4 assists so far this year, earning him the second highest assist total in the NE10.
Inside the Series:
- Merrimack defeated Le Moyne 3-0 in their last matchup that was played at Martone-Mejail Field.
- In 2016, the Warriors held the regular season advantage over the Dolphins, winning the matchup 2-1. The two sides met in the semifinals of the NE10 tournament that same year, where Merrimack fell to Le Moyne by a score of 2-1, spoiling their NE10 championship hopes.
- The two sides are currently neck in neck in the conference standings as Merrimack sits in 5th place, and Le Moyne holds 6th place.
Scouting Le Moyne:
- The Dolphins have started the season with a 6-2 overall record, both losses coming in NE10 play.
