Jonathan Garcia of the Merrimack College men's tennis program won his fifth Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week honor to close the regular season in style. The conference office announced its final regular seaosn award winners on Tuesday afternoon.Â
By winning the honor in the regular season's final week, Garcia bypassed Southern New Hampshire's Emmanuel Vacalares for the most rookie of the week awards bestowed by the league office this season. Garcia (5), freshman

Garcia went a combined 4-2 over six matches played last week for the Warriors, winning two of his doubles matches while prevailing twice at No. 2 singles. Garcia started the week by posting a perfect day against Bentley, dominating at second doubles (6-2) before winning a three-set thriller at No. 2 singles (7-5, 2-6, 6-2). He followed that up with a straight-sets win over SNHU, snapping the Penmen's No. 2 option's eight-match singles winning streak and handing him his first NE10 defeat of the year. Garcia ended the week with his second doubles triumph, winning at No. 2 over Franklin Pierce (6-4).
The Dublin, Ireland native and his Warrior teammates begin play in the NE10 Championship on Tuesday when third-seeded Merrimack faces sixth-seeded Stonehill at 2 p.m. at the Northeast Tennis Center in Middleton, Mass.
