WAKEFIELD, Mass. – The Merrimack College women's and men's hockey teams had an impressive showing on the Hockey East All-Academic teams, as the Warrior programs combined for 46 selections and eight student-athletes were named to the Academic All-Star team, as announced by the league office Friday.
The Warrior teams combined for the second-most number of All-Academic team members in their respective leagues and no school in Hockey East combined for more All-Star team nods than Merrimack College. It was also a sizable improvement of number of players recognized on the league's annual lists when compared to the season before for both programs.
On the women's side, 21 student-athletes were named All-Academic members after they earned a 3.0 GPA or better in both semesters from the 2020-21 academic year.
Bree Bergeron,
Katie Kaufman and
Allison Reeb also earned All-Star team status, which is given to those that earned a perfect 4.0 GPA throughout the year. Also,
Megan Fergusson and
Courtney Maud earned Distinguished Scholar recognition as players that were named to the All-Academic team four years in a row throughout their collegiate careers.
For the men, 25 players earned All-Academic team selections. The group was led by
Troy Kobryn,
Zach Vinnell,
Ben Brar,
Hugo Esselin and
Mick Messner, who were all named All-Star team scholars for their perfect 4.0 GPAs from this past academic year.
Dominic Dockery also completed his career at Merrimack with a Distinguished Scholar nod as a four-year All-Academic team member.
Merrimack's incredible showing in the classroom led to some high cumulative team GPAs as well. The women combined for a 3.647 total, while the men were not far behind with a 3.553 mark.
